The Ultra 5 - Denizens Of Dementia (Green Cookie Records 2004)

The Ultra 5 have been one of the most important garage bands in the late 80s early 90s. Hailing from New York, hometown of the Fuzztones, Outta Place, Tryfles, Vipers, Mosquitos and many other top 80s bands. They put out their debut 45 in 1988 titled "It's A Long Way Home/Sweet Love" and they did their debut album appearance through a Greek label called "Who Stole The Summer?". With many compilation appearances the Ultra 5 managed to gain much reputation amongst the N.Y. underground garage scene and even more glory when they did traveled to Mexico. They indeed inspired several bands in Mexico by then and that's obvious if you read the names of these Mexican bands (e.g. Ultrasonicas) that got together after experiencing the Ultra 5 live. This new CD includes 24 recordings, mainly taken from their "House Of Fun" CD that was released by "Skyclad Records" in the past and supposed to be out in vinyl by "Who stole The Summer?" too but never made it.
Also, this CD offers two fab video clips of "Get Out Of My Life Woman" and "Be" plus a 12-pages booklet with lotsa pictures and info. The Ultra 5 is dark & creepy, erotic & atmospheric psychedelic garage punk, if you can get a clue by that, though I bet you don't... hohoho...so get that CD to listen to what I mean and I can guarantee you will love it.    -Source

"Denizens Of Dementia" is a compilation of rare Ultra 5 tracks from late 80s and early 90s including 1 unreleased song as well as 2 video clips. Ultra 5 are definitelly one of my favorite garage punk bands. I really love their trashy, psychotic and primitive garage punk sound, vox organ with fuzz guitar and cool garage punk image a bit in Cramps style - also 2 girls in the band (organ + bass). 24 tracks and all of them are mindblowing. Few covers like "Off The Hook" (Rolling Stones) or "The Last Ride" (Davie Allan). It's really difficult to pick out favorites here 'cos I will probably write all 24 songs. Anyway, here are some cool titles: "Lady Orange Peel", "Satan's Angel", "Hell", "Psychedelic Soul", "White Trash", ... If you don't have any records of Ultra 5 yet, this CD is a great opportunity to hear this great band with cult status.
