Before Rock, there was
Rockabilly, Blues, Rhythm n’ Blues and Country. The Detonators, through their
original songs, reinvent the styles that made the mid to late 50s such a vital
time in music’s history. Their inimitable sound is infused with the driving
energy inherent in the music of their heroes - Chuck Berry, Little Walter and
Hound Dog Taylor.
Formed in mid ‘97, and Melbourne based, original roots rockers The
Detonators have released four albums... Enhancing their live performance
reputation by aggressive touring, they have played Australia from coast to
coast, and are now conquering overseas markets also. Multi award winning ‘The
Dets’ have quickly earned a deserved reputation, as one of Australia’s most
exciting, hard working, rockin' roots bands.
Their new release “Top Night Out” has a heavier, more rocking sound than their
previous albums, while managing to stay true to their Blues, Rock ‘n’ Roll
sensibilities.
Their ability to produce a distinctly Australian sound while staying within both their genre and sound, is testament to the strength of their song writing and musicianship on this album.
Known locally as the high priests of roots rock ‘n’ roll, radio stations around the world are featuring this quartet’s original blend of door slammin', rubber burning, jump rock blues. Their videos have been shown many times on ABC’S Rage, as well as The Country Music channel, Noise TV and Asylum TV. They can be heard on radio stations around the country including the ABC.
Fans from all over, will testify to this bands top fuellin’ kick-arse live shows.
Original compositions from all members abound on each of their four releases. These are best described as a combination of flat chat rockabilly, laced with extra serves of twanging slapping roots rock ‘n’ roll, sprinkled with a touch of down home blues.
Their straight up rocking formula is a deceptive blend of fat hollow bodied guitar, slapping bull fiddle bass, shuffling stick & skin work, on the button vocals and top fuelling electric harmonica. -Source

High octane, jump rock, rockabilly blues at its best from start to
finish. Bolt your stereo to the floor and turn it up loud for a top night
out. (Pete Williams)
Get your kicks on route 66! Ohhh yheaaah! These guys play some really cool & mean rock'n'blues'roll! The
first track " second in charge" make you're feet wanna move &
shake! An from there on is no stop til' the end of the CD. Super cool singing
& harp from James Moloney, hot guitar licks from Paulie Bignell and tight
rhythm from Dave Phillpots and Eddie Fury. If you like good old rock 'n' roll
like the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Dr. Feelgood, Count Bishops (anyone knows them!)
than this CD is for you (also check out their "Bombshell" CD). Killer CD!!! -Markus
